The Silver City: a county seat with two different economies
Taunton is the county seat of Bristol County and had 59,408 residents in the 2020 Census. It is one of the oldest communities in the country, settled in 1639 and incorporated as a city in 1864. It covers about 48 square miles, and the Taunton River runs through it on the way to Mount Hope Bay.
The nickname comes from the 19th-century silver trade. Reed & Barton, F.B. Rogers, Poole Silver and Taunton Silverplate all worked in the city. The other nickname, the Christmas City, comes from the holiday light display on Taunton Green, the square at the center of downtown, which has run each December since 1914.
Today the city runs on two tracks. One is the downtown and neighborhood economy: the Green, the courts, Morton Hospital on Washington Street (part of Brown University Health since 2024), and the shops, restaurants and practices along Route 44, Route 138 and Route 140. The other is industrial. Myles Standish Industrial Park in North Taunton covers more than 800 acres next to I-495 and holds manufacturers, distributors, offices and technology firms. The former Silver City Galleria mall, near the Route 24 and Route 140 interchange, closed in 2020, was demolished in 2021, and is being rebuilt as Silver City Business Park, an industrial and logistics site.
These two economies need different websites. A page that works for a pizza place near the Green does nothing for a contract manufacturer on the north side. The plans below show what I would build for each.
Page plan for manufacturers and distributors in Myles Standish and along Route 24 and Route 140
Industrial buyers rarely search by town. They search by capability, material, tolerance, certification or the industry they are in. The city name matters mostly for hiring and for freight.
One page per capability or product line. Each should answer: what you make or stock, materials and sizes, volumes you take on, industries served, and the certifications you hold, in text a buyer can copy into a vendor form.
A quote request page. Short form, file upload for drawings, and a named contact or phone number for buyers who prefer to call.
A facility and logistics page. Where the plant or warehouse is, highway access, shipping and receiving details. This is the page where Taunton, I-495 and Route 24 belong.
A careers section. Job seekers do search by town. Open roles, shifts, and how to apply, on pages that work on a phone.
Industry pages. If you sell to several industries, a page for each, with the parts or products that fit.
Some buyers now ask AI tools such as ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews for suppliers. Those tools can only repeat what your site states plainly, so specifications belong in page text and tables, not only in PDF catalogs.
Page plan for downtown shops and restaurants around Taunton Green
These searches happen on a phone, often from the sidewalk or the car, and many end in Google Maps without a visit to the website. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, so the Business Profile and the site have to agree.
Home page. What you sell, where you are, today's hours, parking, and a button to call or get directions, all visible without scrolling far.
Menu or product pages in real text. A PDF menu is hard to read on a phone and hard for search engines and AI tools to quote.
Ordering, reservations or booking. One clear path, linked from every page.
Catering, private events or gift cards each on their own page if you offer them, because people search for them separately.
A complete Google Business Profile. Correct category, hours including holidays, photos, and a habit of asking for reviews.
My years running food service and hospitality operations help with this. I know which questions the phone rings about, and the site should answer them first.
Page plan for healthcare, legal and other professional practices
A county seat with a courthouse and a hospital supports a lot of practices. People search for the service and the city together, then compare two or three options closely before they call.
One page per service or practice area. Who it is for, what happens at the first visit, and how to book.
Provider or attorney profiles. Credentials, focus areas and a photo. People choose a person, not a logo.
New patient or new client page. Forms, what to bring, and for medical practices, the insurance plans you accept, kept current.
Location page. Address, parking, accessibility and hours, matching your Google Business Profile exactly.
Plain-language answers. Short question and answer sections on each service page. These are what AI search tools tend to quote.
I built the full site and more than 300 location pages for Greater Boston Psychiatric Services, a Massachusetts telehealth practice, so I know how careful healthcare content has to be.
Page plan for contractors and home services across greater Taunton
Roofers, plumbers, electricians, HVAC companies, landscapers and lighting installers usually work in Taunton plus the towns that touch it: Raynham, Norton, Easton, Berkley, Dighton, Rehoboth, Lakeville and Middleborough. Distance to the searcher is part of how Google picks who shows up, so a contractor has to show clearly where the work happens.
One page per service. What is included, what it solves, photos of your own jobs, and how to get an estimate.
Service area pages that are earned. A page for a town or a neighborhood such as Weir Village, Whittenton, East Taunton or Oakland should say something true about the work you do there. Thin copies with the name swapped do not help.
An estimate request path on every page: tap to call, text, or a short form.
Reviews and project photos near the top, not buried on a separate page.
Seasonal pages built ahead of the season, for work like snow, spring cleanups or holiday lighting.
I spent a year inside a lighting company handling sales, scheduling and service calls, and I have built more than 30,000 location pages. The Curb Infusion case study shows this kind of local SEO across more than 100 Massachusetts towns.
The other Taunton: a search problem specific to this city
Taunton shares its name with a town in Somerset, England, and search results often mix the two. Search for a service in Taunton and UK companies turn up alongside Massachusetts ones. A site can make its location hard to misread:
State "Taunton, MA" or "Taunton, Massachusetts" in page titles, headings and the footer, not just "Taunton".
Include the full address with ZIP code, and local business structured data with the same details.
Mention neighborhoods and adjoining towns in natural sentences.
Keep the name, address and phone identical on the Google Business Profile and other listings.
How a project runs, step by step
Conversation. How customers reach you now, where they come from, and what the site needs to do.
Free proposal. A written scope: the pages, the search work, and the platform.
Site plan. The page list and what each page must answer, agreed before design starts.
Custom design and content. Every site is designed for the business. It is not a template with a logo dropped in.
Build and search setup. Page titles, structured data, redirects from old URLs, Google Business Profile work.
Review and launch. You review the site, I make changes, then it goes live.
After launch. Maintenance, new pages and ongoing SEO are available if you want them.
Expedited timelines are available when a deadline is real, for example a restaurant with an opening date or a lighting company that has to be ready before the holiday season.
Any platform, including the one you already have
I am a Wix Legend Partner, but I am not Wix-only. I design and build in Wix Studio, WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and other publicly available builders. If your site runs on an older system from a previous agency, I can often redesign and optimize it in place, as I did for Tree Medics. If the current site is sound, I can do only the search work.
Multi-location businesses and franchise brands
Taunton sits where I-495, Route 24, Route 140 and Route 44 meet, the kind of crossroads where a regional or franchise business might be one location among many. A brand with several locations needs a consistent page for each one that still carries real local detail. That is programmatic SEO, and it is a core part of my work: more than 30,000 location pages, the Christmas Decor franchise site, and more than 50 lighting companies.
Questions to ask any web designer before you hire one
Is the design custom, or a template with my logo added?
Who writes the content, and will each service get its own page?
What happens to my current URLs and search visibility at launch?
Which platform do you recommend for my business, and why that one?
Who does the work, and who do I call when something needs to change?
Can you show a site you built for a business like mine?
One honest limit: no one can promise a ranking. Anyone who does is guessing. What I can do is build the pages and listings that search engines and AI tools need in order to understand your business.
