Christmas Decor of Durham installs holiday lighting, wreaths and garland for homes, businesses and towns across Durham Region, Ontario. The company had decided to focus on holiday lighting and greenery only, and the website still carried landscape, permanent and bistro lighting pages, old scripts and dated catalogues. I overhauled the site in one day.
The goal
Make the site match the business as it is now, rank in each Durham Region community it serves, and turn visitors into quote requests during a short, busy season.
What I built
I gave the design a light update, then went page by page for contrast, spacing, alignment and font size on desktop and mobile, including a rebuilt mobile menu. The forms were rebuilt in the new Wix Forms with notifications to the owner and admin, the old booking graphic became plain text, and a countdown to Christmas runs in the header on the right time zone and resets to the next Christmas instead of hitting zero. The copy uses Canadian spellings and states that the company is fully insured with WSIB coverage.
Built for search
I researched the competitors ranking in each community and rewrote the area pages for Durham Region, Whitby, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington, Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, Scugog, Port Perry, Uxbridge, Brock and Brooklin. The retired service pages and collections were removed and redirected, the CMS was restructured, and Search Console was connected with daily indexing and weekly rank tracking against the top five competitors in each area.
